The opportunity to host the Olympic Games is the fulfillment of a long held dream for the Chinese people. The Olympic Games is more than just a sporting event, it is an opportunity for countries around the world to gather to celebrate in the Olympic Movement. Athletes and spectators will be moved by the "faster, higher, and stronger" spirit that come with competition, but will also be inspired by the peace, friendship, and unity of culture that will be a part of the Beijing Olympic Games.
China has a long, proud history with a rich cultural heritage. The Chinese people are warm, hospitable and eager to share their country with the rest of the world. It is for this reason that the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) has set up the Department of Spectator Services. BOCOG hopes to provide all Olympic guests with an extraordinary and unforgettable experience through thoughtful and cheerful service.

Sample ticket for Olympic opening ceremonyRong Jun, deputy director of the BOCOG Ticketing Center, revealed Wednesday the details of the third and final phase of Olympic ticket sales. These tickets can be kept as collectibles, as they will be designed with the Olympic "lucky clouds" emblem, representing harmony between Chinese artistry and the Olympic spirit.
Plans for Olympic ticket designs began as early as 2006. Guided by the requirements of the entire image and look of the Beijing Olympic Games, creators have carried out the concepts of "High-tech Olympics," "People's Olympics," and "Green Olympics," to come up with motifs. During the entire process, BOCOG continued to respectively follow guidelines on the tickets' specifications and contents set forth by the International Olympic Committee.
The sample ticketsWith continued innovation, tickets have become information-richer and more distinguishable for Olympic fans. In order to come up with the final product, every aspect of ticket design and composition, including paper and ink, underwent serious scrutiny by creative experts. The result: an efficient ticket design full of unique Olympic flavor.

Sample ticket for accredited personnelAt the press conference, BOCOG also revealed a sample ticket for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Fantastic images of the "Bird's Nest" and "lucky clouds" are creatively printed on a bed of red and yellow, fully embodying the energetic and elevated atmosphere of the opening ceremony.

BOCOG placated concerns about counterfeit tickets, saying that many anti-fake measures, including the application of multiple electronic and physical technologies were used to eliminate fake tickets, speed up ticket identification and avoid large scale speculative and profit-taking cases, thus protecting the interests of ticket buyers.

British police foiled an attempt to disrupt the Olympic torch relay in London on Sunday.In the Ladbroke Grove area in London, a supporter of Tibet independence group tried to grab away the Olympic torch. He was wrestled to the ground by police. Later, another supporter attempted to use a fire extinguisher to put out the flame as it was transferred between runners.
The man was dragged away to a police vehicle.One of the relay runners was British tennis player Tim Henman. The incident did not spoil the occasion for Henman.Tim Henman said, "I think the Olympic Games is a great way that the whole world can come together and celebrate sport.
As I said there's little bit of an edge today when you see some of the protestors but I still think it's been a good day."Many spectators voiced disapproval of attempts to disrupt the torch relay by those who claimed they had done so for "political reasons". They say sports should be separated from political things.The torch is scheduled to travel through ten London boroughs from Wembley to Greenwich on Sunday....

Assaults and attacks on the Olympic torch are unacceptable, said International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge here on Thursday.
The Olympic torch relay has been repeatedly disrupted by Tibetan separatists and their supporters who tried to grab the torch or block the relay route.
Rogge told a news conference that he felt sad about the disruptions and what shocked him most was the violence against disabled torch bearers.
The disabled bearers are defenseless and violence against them is unacceptable, said Rogge, adding that the attacks and assaults would have bad influence on children.
Despite the disruptions, Rogge stressed that the torch relay must go on and he had no doubt that Beijing would hold a magnificent Games.

Chinese President Hu Jintao lit a cauldron at Beijing's Tiananmen Square with the Olympic torch Monday morning, marking the official start of the round-the-world relay. 
The ceremony kicked off on the square at the heart of Beijing two hours after a specially chartered Air China plane carrying the flame from Greece touched down at about 9 a.m.
Vice President Xi Jinping, member of the Political Bureau Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), addressed the ceremony.
Zhou Yongkang, member of the nine-man Political Bureau Standing Committee, and other CPC and state leaders attended the ceremony.
Also present was International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission chairman Hein Verbruggen, who addressed the ceremony on behalf of IOC president Jacques Rogge.
The flame is scheduled to depart from Beijing on Tuesday for the Kazakh city of Almaty, the first stop in its global tour of 135 cities.
The relay will cover 137,000 kilometers in 130 days before the flame finally arrives at the National Stadium in Beijing on Aug 8,2008 for the opening ceremony.
