All 3,030 jade pieces for the Olympic medals have been produced, reported the Liao Shen Evening Paper. The jade pieces, produced through a strictly controlled process, are on their way to the Shanghai Mint, where the jade pieces will be set into the Olympic medals.
The Beijing Olympic gold, silver and bronze medals -- 1,010 of each -- stand out against past Olympic medals, as they incorporate a traditional Chinese feature: jade. The jade will be set into the reverse side of the medals, with white jade for the gold, greenish-white jade for the silver and green jade for the bronze.
Using a precious-grade jade from Kunlun Mountain that is recognized by jewelry experts everywhere, the jade pieces were produced in Yangzhou, a place known for its exquisite carving craft. The Kunlun jade was donated from Qinghai Province.
Each sturdy jade piece is 7mm in diameter and 3.5-4mm in thickness and can withstand the impact of a drop from 20m.

A set of six stamps portraying Beijing's main Olympic venues were issued by China Post on Thursday. The stamps feature the National Gymnasium, the China Agricultural University Gymnasium, the Beijing University Gymnasium, the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center, the Laoshan Velodrome and the National Swimming Center, or the Water Cube. Midnight revelers will have a wider choice of public transport during the 2008 Olympic Games as Beijing is to launch special bus routes and add seven routes to the 24-hour bus network.
Thirty-four bus routes would be arranged to relieve possible transport pressure around venues and tourist sites during the Games, said Liu Xiaoming, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Transportation Commission, on Thursday.
The host city would add seven additional night bus routes besides the current 12, Liu said.
"A round-the-clock public transportation system during the Beijing Olympic Games will be ensured," he added, as 40 percent of Beijing's 66,000 taxis would operate 24 hours and rail transport could be extended during the Games.
Liu said an advanced urban transport network would improve the city's environment.
"If one percent of private car owners in China turned to public transport, up to 80 million liters of gasoline would be saved every day," he said
.
